Timo Polari has been exploring the far reaches of the world, himself, and human nature since 1989. His adventures include expeditions into Antarctica, Greenland, Arctic Spitzbergen, remote districts of California, mountains of Scandinavia and the Alps. He has also travelled widely, visiting Europe’s renowned culture attractions.
Polari has a university degree in Physical Education. He did his military service in the paratroops.
Five years later, in 2002, Polari fulfilled his long-time dream to ski to the South Pole.
During 2004-2011 he accomplished his unique culture-adventure project. Additionally Polari completed a 65-day, 1800-kilometer backpacking trek through the Scandinavian Mountains.
Polari's motivational speeches have attracted record crowds. 2500 people attended his lecture in Turku Holiday Club, 1000 in Jyväskylä Pavilion and 800 in Finlandia Hall in Helsinki.
Polari is a unique mixture of a physically strong and perfectly adapted long distance trekker, a multi-dimensional artistic soul, loving father and a philosopher.
Polari’s photos, interviews and articles have been published extensively in the Finnish media.
During 2010-12 Polari worked as a physical and psychological fitness trainer of the “Peliveljet (Match Brothers) of Seinäjoki” floorball team. They won gold and silver medals in Finland’s national league and also the Cup of Finland. Polari worked for fifteen years as the Physical Education teacher at the Seinäjoki High and Secondary Schools.
"Timo Polari connects -in a very unconventional way- severe physical efforts and human values. The task seems maybe absurd, but Polari succeeds, and the result is a very original combination of physical and mental strength, wisdom and beauty. Polari is a verbal and interpersonal talent, whose emotional intelligence creates fascinating images for his audience. 'Destination South Pole' is one of the most interesting presentations I've ever heard, and during my 45-year long career as a professor of education, I've seen quite a few.”"
